It was relevant, it was irreverent, insulting to many of the book’s subjects identified by name, but most of all…it was just funny. I know I read it 50 times during my junior and senior year at Ohio State. Once upon a time, when it first came out, I read it so incessantly that I knew every story in the book and could cite the page on which it appeared. I was rummaging through a drawer full of stuff last week, and there it was: A dog-eared, well-used paper edition of Ball Four, the 1972 blockbuster book on baseball by former New York Yankee pitcher Jim Bouton. Remembrances of a face-to-face meeting with former New York Yankee, and author of the blockbuster best-seller ‘Ball Four’, Jim Bouton.) Such as this one originally shared in July of 2014, one of those minor league baseball experiences you never forget, and in this case…a most unforgettable person. Note: From time to time we relive stories previously published, simply because they’re good stories. I was once lucky enough to see Jim Bouton and his knuckleball…eye to eye! My signed copy of his book, Ball Four, is more important to me than most other signed books. He won two games against the Cardinals in the ’64 World Series. Jim Bouton, as he appeared with the New York Yankees in 1964.

It all takes place on an island off the coast of Ireland, where Jules, a magazine executive with very expensive taste, has just married Will, the star of a television show called Survive The Night. It does begin somewhat slowly as the foundations are laid for revelations that come to light later on, but as events play out, it does rather keep you on the edge of your seat. The structure of the story is highly distinctive as it switches constantly between the points of view of all the main characters, making elaborate use of what is ultimately quite a simple concept. It is a murder mystery that keeps you guessing as you discover the motives of each flawed character, uncovering disturbing secrets and unexpected twists, which throw up a whole range of possibilities. This is the kind of book that uses an effective set-up to draw you in right from the beginning, and fuels a feeling of intense curiosity all the way to the end. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? Brief Summary of Book: The Rational Male – Preventive Medicine by Rollo Tomassi Despite the unfaithfulness and his drug habit-which Mallouk shared for a time-she still supported the painter, loving him even after he infected her with the pelvic inflammatory disease that would leave her infertile. At night, he would often go alone to clubs to pick up boys or girls and disappear with them for days at a time. Basquiat immediately moved into Mallouk’s apartment, where he spent his days drawing, masturbating or snorting cocaine. Not long after she arrived, she met Basquiat at a dive bar on the Lower East Side. With its bold and brashly inventive art scene, the city seemed the perfect place for a girl who wore paper dresses, hid heroin in her beehive hairdo and believed that she “had seen God” in Iggy Pop. In 1980, Mallouk left a dysfunctional home in Canada for New York. A provocative account of the passionate but stormy relationship between a Canadian runaway named Suzanne Mallouk and acclaimed New York artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988). It’s a heart-stopping book with twists, turns, and encounters with characters long since forgotten about, expanding the Riordanverse and driving the main plot of Heroes of Olympus forwards. In The House of Hades, these characters are split up into multiple parties, with one pair of characters making their way through Tartarus to close the Doors of Death while the rest of the group travels to meet them on the other side, encountering monsters and side quests of their own along the way. Once you get used to the dynamic, this novel is incredibly enjoyable, with characters old and new traveling to Italy and Greece to save the world once more. One of the most enjoyable things about the Heroes of Olympus series is the way in which a handful of Greek demigods and a handful of Roman demigods are thrown together to fulfill a quest, and their differing backgrounds are shown to be both a benefit and a hindrance. Yet, the name that so aptly describes our current state was lost to time and translation. Constantly in and out of his cell, he looks at the sun as if it were too slow in setting. Such bodily listlessness and yawning hunger as though he were worn by a long journey or a prolonged fast … Next he glances about and sighs that no one is coming to see him. A mind “seized” by this emotion is “horrified at where he is, disgusted with his room … It does not allow him to stay still in his cell or to devote any effort to reading”. John Cassian, a monk and theologian wrote in the early 5th century about an ancient Greek emotion called acedia. We’re bored, listless, afraid and uncertain. Always a good book to curl up with on the couch, this won't disappoint. While the back and forth is starting to bug me (which man will she choose!), given Ranger is my favorite character, it was a strong book full of information and subtle vibes. But for what reason? As the book progresses, you learn how much Stephanie Plum is really torn up about Ranger, despite her feelings for Joe Morelli. At the same time, Ranger's daughter has been kidnapped, and someone suspects he's behind it all. She soon learns out this person has a connection to Ranger - it's his ex-wife. She's not sure who it is, but the person is scary. I really enjoyed this book, given its focus on the mysterious Ranger. 4 out of 5 stars to Twelve Sharp, the 12th book in the "Stephanie Plum" cozy mystery series written in 2006 by Janet Evanovich. I was no longer trying to cautiously keep my expectations low and I was back to basically already praising it, lifting it to God Status and just waiting for the moment when I could fangirl about it, too. Things like: “snow-drenched fairytale,” and “where the monsters steal your heart and love ends up being the nightmare.” Oooooooh!! I was hooked. With these things in mind, I went in with some consternation, as I always feel about highly-hyped books. That is, until I read the blurbs on the back of the cover.
